Band Bio Blake Tanberk grew up here in the Twin Cities, and at a young age he developed what would be a life long passion for music.  It started by relentlessly collecting and listening to albums, which led to his desire to play and create music himself.  Then, when a teacher in Junior High did a demonstration on the bass, he knew right away that was his instrument.  He immediately started playing bass in various school bands, and also taught himself the guitar.  Blake's exploration of creating different forms of music did not stop there though, and he soon found himself being an active scratch DJ when he lived in Denver, Co in the early 2000's.  It was when Blake moved back to Minneapolis that he decided to enroll in McNally Smith College of Music to satisfy his constant thirst for deeper musical knowledge.  In 2009, he earned a B.M. in Bass Performance, and studied with some of the Twin Cities best bass players and musicians (Jay Young, Jeff Bailey, Charles Fletcher, Gary Raynor, Steve Faison and Sean Turner.)  With vast musical tastes, he enjoys basically every genre of music.  Some of his favorite styles to play are R n' B, Rock, Funk, Latin, Jazz, and Reggae.  Besides playing the bass, guitar, and DJing, he also plays the keyboard and composes various styles of music.  Some of the great local bands that Blake has played with include the Reverbs, Skittish, Higher Ground, Ben Cook-Feltz, Sarah Morris, the Devon Worley Band, Rookai, and Cassondra Lea Meyer.  Besides being in Groove Street, he also plays in the rock group Blue Ribbon Bandits, and plays every Sunday at Gethsemane Church in Maplewood.  Blake also teaches bass, guitar, and music theory at Modern Day Music in West St. Paul. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Blake Tanberk - Bass © Copyright 2012 Sound Soulutions LLC.
